2013-04-29 - Rhythm Gourd
Although I've been to plenty of music festivals, the Gnaoua World Music Festival in Essaouira was very different. I had never heard of most of the musicians so I enjoyed taking in whatever I happened to find myself watching at the time. It's quite liberating compared to other music festivals where you tend to rush around trying to see all your favourites. Not only did it expose me to a whole new world of music, it also gave me the opportunity to observe many instruments I'd never seen before. I'm not totally sure but I believe this instrument is a rhythm gourd. It's fun to watch and quite mesmerising as it is thrown back and forth...
